Dr. Paul Schiavo

General Practitioner with special interest in Regenerative Medicine and Interventional Orthobiologics
Dr. Paul Schiavo is the Founder and Clinical Director of OrthoRegen® and is considered a leading key opinion leader internationally. He has completed extensive training in regenerative medicine and the use of orthobiologics such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in musculoskeletal conditions. He has had the privilege of training under world leaders within this medical field in the USA.
Dr Schiavo has successfully completed all courses organised by the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation (IOF) in Colorado, USA. These advanced courses provide training in interventional procedures using ultrasound and fluoroscopy techniques for the precise placement of orthobiologics to treat musculoskeletal conditions. The IOF provide course certification, which is only attained after participants successfully pass IOF course examinations.
Complementing Dr Schiavo's skills is the successful completion of other certificates including comprehensive training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Prolotherapy, Lyftogt Perineural Injection Treatment®, and Extracorporeal and Focussed Shockwave Therapy. He has developed treatment protocols and techniques including a new musculoskeletal medicine model for the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. He has a keen interest in developing new injection techniques under image guidance and is involved in scientific research relating to the cellular mechanisms involved in orthobiologic treatments. He is passionate about fixing the "broken" medical model of "band-aid" medicine in order to provide treatment options to improve his patients quality of life.​

Dr Schiavo graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. After graduation, he completed his resident years at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He gained experience in multiple disciplines including Emergency Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery before changing his specialty path to General Practice/Family Medicine. He continued to pursue his interest in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries, leading him to the field of Interventional Regenerative Orthopaedic Medicine, as it is known in the USA, in 2013.

Dr Schiavo is an attendee and contributor at regular global conferences and symposiums, bringing the latest research and evidence based treatments to his practice.

Dr Schiavo sits on the Board of Directors of the International Regenerative Medicine Experts Society (IARMES). He holds memberships with the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation (IOF), American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Schiavo has a special interest in the non-surgical management of knee, hip and shoulder osteoarthritis and is currently researching the micro-environment of the osteoarthritic knee joint to develop targeted orthobiologic therapies to treat this condition. He also has a special interest in sports injuries and the non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation of these injuries.

Dr. William Bushby
General Practitioner with special interest in Regenerative Medicine and Interventional Orthobiologics
Dr William Bushby graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. After graduation, he spent his resident years at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, gaining experience in a range of medical fields, including paediatrics, before pursuing further training in General Surgery. After deciding to change his specialty pathway to General Practice, he became interested in the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal pain, recognising that there was a significant gap in the existing standard treatment methods for musculoskeletal problems.

Dr Bushby finds the significant improvements in pain, mobility and quality of life that can be achieved with orthobiologic treatments are a welcome addition to existing treatment options, and has a particular interest in the recovery of sporting injuries.
Dr Bushby has completed further training in musculoskeletal ultrasound and has been extensively trained in Prolotherapy, Lyftogt Perineural Injection Treatment, Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapies by Dr Paul Schiavo, with whom he has been working with since 2017.
